Introduction

Abstract

AT&T plans to introduce its U-verse IP TV service in San Antonio, Texas in June. Its schedule for a rollout to 15 or 20 markets will not occur until the end of 2006. This is a six month slip from previous announcements that this service would start at the end of 2005. We believe that both the availability of MPEG-4 set-top boxes and problems with the Microsoft software contributed to this delay. AT&T received permission from Maumelle, Arkansas (population 13 thousand) to provide IP TV services.
