Revenue for communications service providers (CSPs) grew by 5% in 2008, to reach USD1.8 trillion. Revenue is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 6% from 2008 to 2013, reaching USD2.4 trillion. Mobile data services will be the main engine of growth. Mobile voice is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5%, but non-messaging mobile data will grow at a CAGR of 16% and messaging data at a CAGR of 12%. Residential broadband and video will continue to grow at double-digit rates, at 10%. Business services will grow at the same rate as overall revenue, at 6%. PSTN revenue will decline at a CAGR of -6%.

The mature markets of North America, Western Europe and Developed Asia-Pacific accounted for 70% of revenue in 2008, but will have the lowest growth rates over the forecast period, with CAGRs of 4%, 1% and 3%, respectively. Emerging markets are forecast to grow more quickly, with the highest growth coming in the Middle East, at a CAGR of 14%, and sub-Saharan Africa at a CAGR of 13%. The market in Central/Latin America will grow at CAGR of 12% CAGR, that in Emerging Asia-Pacific at a CAGR of 11% and Central and Eastern Europe at a CAGR of 5%.
