Abstract
LTE pricing models are still at the experimental stage and it is therefore
critical for operators to closely observe and understand how other operators
sell LTE.
Operators differentiate their mobile broadband (MBB) tariffs in different
ways: through volume-based or speed-based pricing models or a combination of
both ('hybrid' pricing models). Operators in most advanced LTE countries are
moving towards merging their 3G and 4G tariff tiers under a common 4G-based
branding, while LTE allows a greater emphasis on speed-based pricing.
This Viewpoint accompanies the latest update to Analysys Mason's Mobile
broadband pricing in Western Europe: benchmarking tool , a survey of of
USB modem subscription services and SIM-only packages suitable for use with a
USB modem or mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device.
This Viewpoint provides:
- an analysis of the results obtained from Analysys Mason's benchmarking
tool for MBB pricing in Western Europe in 4Q 2012, which can be downloaded as
a separate file
- recommendations for operators
- a forecast for the proportion of large-screen 3G to 4G MBB connections in
Western Europe (2011 - 2017)
- an insight into the drivers behind changes in entry-level large-screen MBB
prices between the second and fourth quarters of 2012

large-screen MBB tariffs
- an analysis of operators' pricing models in the Nordics and Germany, which
are most advanced in their LTE roll-outs and are leading the way in selling LTE
