Introduction

Abstract

With today's mobile workforce, data is everywhere: laptops, smartphones, removable media such as USB drives and other devices. Loss or theft of a single device could compromise a business. Policy, automation and encryption are essential for successful enterprise data protection, but regardless of the approach, encryption is a fundamental element to protecting data.

Many enterprises in the Asia Pacific region are seeking to build a comprehensive endpoint encryption strategy to enable the organization to meet their current needs and expand as security requirements evolve for email, laptops, desktops, instant messaging, PDAs, FTP, bulk data transfers, backups, shared files on network storage, etc. The goals are typically to reduce risks and security infrastructure complexity, lower maintenance costs, and realize a return on investment. This has not been an easy task given the number of security policies to be met and the mix of 3rd party products that are typically involved in securing an endpoint.

Asia Pacific Information Security vendors are aggressively pursing marketing and technology strategies to drive higher value as they embrace the concept that is not “just about” security - but managing secured endpoint data devices as well. In 2009, we see each of the vendors bringing all their technologies much closer together in their packaged offerings and “Go To Market” strategies.
