Introduction

Abstract

STUDY BACKGROUND

Over the past decade, BCC has published a number of analyses of the market for hazardous waste remediation materials and services. Some of the more recent reports are listed below under related BCC Research. However, since none of these reports was published more recently than 2002, BCC believes that an update is required in order to account for economic, regulatory, and technological developments over the past 4 years.

Earlier BCC studies of the hazardous waste remediation market have focused on the United States and other advanced markets. Other markets such as China, India, and Brazil are emerging as important potential hazardous waste remediation markets, and this report includes expanded coverage of such emerging markets.

REPORT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The overall goal of this report is to identify the most promising markets for hazardous waste remediation technologies during the 5-year period from 2006 through 2011.

Specific objectives of the report include the following:

  • Characterizing the 2006 hazardous waste remediation market, in quantitative as well as qualitative terms.

Interview data were combined with information gathered through an extensive review of secondary sources such as trade publications, trade associations, company literature, and on-line databases to produce the baseline market estimates contained in this report.

With 2005 as a baseline, market projections for each market segment were developed for 2006 through 2011. The projections are based on a combination of a consensus among the primary contacts combined with our understanding of the key market drivers and their impact from a historical and analytical perspective. The analytical methodologies used to generate the market estimates are described in detail in the section on Detailed Market Projections. All dollar projections presented in this report are in 2005 constant dollars.
