INTERNET DATA CENTRES ASIA: Market Evolution, Opportunities, and Challenges published by BroadGroup in October, 2006. This report consists of 102 pages & 36 Tables& Charts and the price starts from US $ 3031.
Abstract
Internet Data Centres Asia reviews the market at an apposite moment in the
evolution of the sector. Across the 11 economies surveyed, the report suggests
that data centre markets are more complex and multi-faceted businesses than
found elsewhere, that a multi-tiered system of operations - as opposed to a
"regional" market - exists at present and that the period through to 2010 will
be characterised by step change involving consolidation, significant shifts in
demand, and the emergence of India as a leading player.
Key challenges for Data Centres are common across the region - and include
space constraints especially in dense city centres, the need to upgrade
facilities to internationally accepted standards, shifting the model towards
managed services which have yet to fully evolve across all the countries
covered, the cost of power which has yet to fully emerge as an critical issue,
and in those countries where power supply issues are more acute, and a lack of
available skilled staff.
Yet a diversity of business models reveals the wide range of approaches,
market conditions, customer base and the resources and capabilities open to
data centres in the region. Pursuit of wholesale models, colocation,
internationalisation and more rarely, managed services, defines the service
menu now, although the report suggests significant changes are likely to occur
over the period assessed.
The report reviews the conundrum of the relationship between Data Centres and
Enterprise customers. A commonly expressed view found in research for the
report is an apparent lack of awareness by Enterprises of the cost-benefit of
migrating to third party outsourcers. Conversely customised solutions
available through managed services are not yet widely provided in part because
of the diversity of business models referred to, but also because of the
implications managed services hold in terms of investment in equipment and the
attendant challenges. Yet the survey reports on the success of Integrators who
are winning managed services contracts. Enterprises are also resorting to
"self-build" projects to control and protect their IT in a way that they do
not apparently obtain currently from data centres.
Investment therefore remains a critical key to the future of data centres in
the region, and the report assesses the consequences of failure to do so, in a
market that still only barely touches the overall total potential.
Each country is assessed individually, including player profiles, market
structure and key constraints. Multi-site, Integrator and non-Asian "regional"
players are also profiled and evaluated.
The report concludes with forecasts of space and service revenues 2006-2010.
