Overall, 56% of respondents expect growth in the demand for 'RFID smart labels' in 2012-2013, followed by 'labels with smart tags' and 'barcode labels', as identified by 48% and 41% of respective respondents.

Key Highlights

According to survey results, the top three key technology based packaging approaches expected to demonstrate increased demand over the next 12 months include 'tamper-evident packaging', 'retail-ready packaging', and 'PET plastic packaging'.

'Bio-degradable packaging', 'recycled plastic packaging', and 'plant and vegetable waste based packaging' will record increased demand for new technology over the next 12 months.

The survey results show that 46% of global packaging industry buyer respondents and 52% of supplier respondents expect procurement budgets for new technology to increase in 2012-2013.
