Research Report on China's Construction Machinery Industry, 2012

With the shift of production and demand of global construction machinery, China becomes the global manufacture center and important market of construction machinery industry. Most of the leading construction machinery enterprises across the world enter China. In the field of China's construction machinery, foreign-funded enterprises occupy a considerable share.

In 2011, China's construction machinery industry was in good development situation and the sales revenue exceeded CNY 500 billion, with an increase of more than 30% YOY.

In 2011, the sales revenue of the top 50 construction machinery enterprises in China accounted for over 80% of the whole industrial revenue, among which, the annual sales revenue of three large-sized enterprises, Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group, Zoomlion and SANY Group all exceeded CNY 80 billion. Apart from that, China had over 10 construction machinery manufacturers whose annual sales revenue broke through CNY 10 billion, including foreign-funded enterprises.

In 2011, due to the long-term optimistic attitude of enterprises in the industry toward the construction machinery market demand, investment and restructuring kept actively going on. The port-along manufacturing base program invested by XCMG (Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group) was started and XCMG concrete construction machinery base laid the foundation; The project with 80,000 excavators of SANY Heavy Machinery was put into operation; Liugong Machinery acquired 42% shares of Shougang Heavy Duty Truck and marched into mining machinery industry in cooperation with Shougang Mining; The Shantui Concrete Machinery completed its Wuhan Industrial Park; Sunward Intelligent Equipment Group laid the foundation stone of the Sunward Industrial City. In addition, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Terex and so on continually expanded their investment and layout in China.

From the perspective of industry structure, many spare part manufacturers increased investment according to the demand of machine manufacturers. A new plant of Jiangsu Hengli High Pressure Cylinder Co., Ltd. was put into operation; Kawasaki Precision Machinery (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. also launched its new plant; the construction of Yuci Hydraulic Industrial Base started, and so on. Additionally, in accordance with the market demand, the testing centers of construction machinery products, related agents and after-sale maintenance service companies all increased investment and integration to various degrees, optimizing the development of midstream and downstream industry chains.

In 2011, the import value of China's construction machinery amounted to USD 9.045billion, with an increase of 7.69% YOY and the export value amounted to USD 15.909 billion, with an increase of 53.8% YOY. What's more, the trade surplus was USD 6.864 billion, with an increase of USD 4.922 billion YOY. In 2011, the import and export value of China's construction machinery products all exceeded the highest level in 2008, with an increase of 28.38% compared to that in 2008, among which the import and export amount separately increased by 50.36% and 18.53%.

Some of the relatively competitive enterprises of China's construction machinery industry continue to expand product exports and start international operation in the methods of overseas mergers and acquisitions and developing overseas joint ventures, etc. For instance, the XCMG, Zoomlion, SANY Group, Liugong and other enterprises continue to invest to launch sole proprietorship and joint-venture enterprises in Europe, South America and Eastern Europe.

It is expected that in order to promote Chinese economic development, the Chinese governments at all levels will issue a series of investment projects to expand domestic demand and strengthen economic growth since the second half of 2012, including the railway, rail transportation, energy, real estate and so on, which will bring good news to the construction machinery industry. And from 2012 to 2014, the market demand of China construction machinery will rapidly rise and a lot of opportunities will appear for construction machinery enterprises at home and abroad.
