Introduction

Abstract

The generation, consumption, dissipation, and efficiency of power remains a primary concern in almost all major product markets. The bottom line of any electronic product is total cost. Aside from its initial price, how much a device will cost in power consumption over its lifespan is something that is of critical importance. Also, 2010 is expected to be a pivotal in product architectures as OEMs must begin to adapt to further energy policies and standard starting from 2011 to 2014 range.

The highest growth will be seen in several applications including automotive (for motor controller drivers), LED lighting (for power drivers and controllers), mobile phones, and consumer electronics (for intelligent smart battery chargers and power-management controllers). In all portable devices, advanced functions require new and more advanced components in order to supply and control power.

Databeans expects that the global power management market will reach $21.3 billion in global revenue in 2010. Over the next five years, sales of power management ICs will grow at an average rate of 8 percent annually, reaching $30.6 billion in total revenue by 2015.

For power management, the discrete market includes transistors, rectifiers, and thyristors. In 2010, Databeans projects that discrete power management will reach $12.3 billion in revenue, accounting for the great majority of all power management products currently in use.

Analog power ICs will reach $9 billion in revenue in 2010 and will constitute more than 42 percent of the overall $21.3 billion power management market. Over the next five years analog power IC sales will outpace the power market as a whole, with a CAGR of 11 percent, reaching $15.5 billion in sales by 2015.

Press Release

Power Management: The Global Landscape is Changing for OEMs

September 30th, 2010

Global Information Inc. presents a new market research report, "2010 Power Management" by Databeans, Inc..

Research analysts expect 2010 to be a pivotal year in product architectures as OEMs (original electronic manufacturers) must start adapting to advanced energy policies and standards that are planned to begin between 2011 and 2014.

Significant growth will be observed in several applications such as automotive (for motor controller drivers), mobile phones, LED lighting (for power drivers and controllers), and consumer electronics (for smart battery chargers and power-management controllers). The generation, dissipation, consumption and efficient of power are concerns that remain at the forefront for nearly all major product markets. Besides initial price, how much an electronic device will cost in terms of power consumption over its lifespan is a critical concern. In all portable devices, advanced functions require new and more advanced components in order to supply and control power.

"The global power management market will reach $21.3 billion in global revenue in 2010," says Databeans. "Over the next five years, sales of power management ICs will grow at an average rate of 8 percent annually, reaching $30.6 billion in total revenue by 2016."

Meanwhile, discrete power management is forecast to reach $ 12.3 billion in revenue, which will account for a good chunk of all power management products in current use. Discrete market power management includes rectifiers, thyristors, and transistors.

Additionally, analog power ICs should reach $9 billion in revenue in 2010 constituting over 42 percent of the total $21.3 billion power management market. Databeans expect sales of analog power ICs to outpace the overall power market in the next five years with a compound annual growth rate of 11 percent through 2015.
