Report Highlights

An analysis of forward-looking statements in vendors' annual reports reveals a widespread expectation that future revenues are going to be affected by the falling levels of demand in the global economy. It appears that vendors with a presence in emerging markets and a diverse portfolio of offerings feel the most confident about their future.

By comparing data from 2007 to 2008 it is clear that enterprises are interested in vendors with a good standing in an industry. Financial stability, expertise and depth are judged to be the crucial factors influencing purchasing decisions rather than price, which was the leading factor last year.

It is important to realize how vertical markets are performing in a global economy. Just because some IT departments in a given country are planning budget decreases, it is not correct to assume that all industries within that country are suffering.
