Abstract
32M LED LCD TVs to be Shipped During 2010 Under “Generalization through Diversification” Strategy
The LED LCD TV began to fully create a market in 2009 as it recorded over 3M
units shipment after 5 years of its first launch in 2004. In addition, 32M LED
LCD TVs are expected to be shipped that accounts for 19% of 170M LCD TVs in
2010 to mark the "first year of the LED LCD TV generalization". Majority of
LED LCD TV models launched in 2009 saw that 40~50-inches large size models
with premium image accounted for a large market, However, 40-inches models and
30-inches models are expected to comprise 54% and 28% respectively by 2010 and
the LED LCD TV application is projected to expand to models below 30-inches as
well.
The LED LCD TV, which began to be traded in some regions in 2008, had a large
expansion in sales regions focused in Samsung and Sony in 2009. This indicates
an accumulation of know-hows regarding product development and marketing that
match characteristics of each region. This also serves as a motive to a bright
2010 market outlook.
Major TV brands also target to aggressively pioneer the LED LCD TV market in
2010. Samsung Electronics, a leading maker, targets over 10 million shipment
units in 2010, whereas LG, Sony, and Sharp target 5~7 million units each.
Philips, Toshiba, and Vizio also target to record 3~5 million units in
shipment respectively.
The LCD TV has been continuously expanding the market share along with a
radical advancement in technology in a short period of time. The graft with
LED light source, which includes an environmental friendly element on top of
the image quality and design, appears likely to generate more added-value to
the LCD TV industry. 2010 is expected to be the first year of LED LCD TV
generalization.
