Introduction

Abstract

Lowering the cost of TFT-LCD panels relies critically on high production yield. However, increasing panel sizes means proportionate increase in number of defects and consequently diminishing production yield. From generation 6 and over, panel makers started to adopt repair (open/short defects) a lot to enhance yield ratio.

Technology Comparison and Investment Efficiency Analysis for TFT-LCD Repair Systems

Cost reduction has always been an issue when it comes to TFT-LCD panels. Although a high degree of production yield has always been critical in order to achieve cost reduction, it was at the same time impossible to avoid proportionate increases in the number of panel defects as they grew in size. Your average manufacturer is able to enhance production yield through streamlining the production line, but the rate of generational change in TFT-LCD panel manufacturing is very fast and production line improvements alone have not translated into increased production yield. For this reason, TFT-LCD panel cannot lead to increased production yield. For this reason, TFT-LCD panel manufacturing has long relied repair systems.
