FOAMED PLASTICS to 2013 (US industry forecasts for 2013 & 2018) published by The Freedonia Group in July, 2009. This report consists of 301 PAGES and the price starts from US $ 4700.

Introduction

Abstract

US demand to reach 8.6 billion pounds in 2013

Demand for foamed plastics in the US is forecast to grow 2.9 percent annually to 8.6 billion pounds in 2013, valued at $27 billion. Rebounds are anticipated after the 1.2 percent annual decline experienced between 2003 and 2008. Construction markets will lead advances, particularly for insulation and carpet underlay. Most rapid advances are expected for RIM and foamed vinyl, fueled by rebounds in motor vehicle production and construction uses. Overall foamed plastics growth will be driven by demands for durable, comfortable and lower-cost materials, as well as needs for heightened energy efficiency in areas such as buildings and appliances.

Foamed urethane demand will grow 2.8 percent per annum through 2013 to 4.3 billion pounds based on cushioning opportunities for foamed flexible urethane in furniture, bedding, carpet backing and other areas. Slightly slower growth is expected for foamed rigid urethane with good construction market opportunities. Rigid urethane is a highly efficient thermal insulating material with widespread building, tank, pipe and appliance uses. The material may also be foamedin- place or used as the core insulating material in structural panels.

Demand for foamed polystyrene demand is expected to exhibit below average growth through 2013 to 2.5 billion pounds. Advances will be restrained by maturing applications and average growth in the large packaging segment. Best packaging growth is expected for hinged containers and cups. Foamed vinyl construction uses such as flooring, pipe, and windows and doors. Foamed vinyl has cost, performance and other advantages over wood, metal and other materials in many uses.

Construction will remain largest market

Construction, the largest foamed plastic market, will be stimulated by opportunities in insulation, flooring, carpet padding and other areas. Insulation growth will be fueled by the superior insulating qualities of urethane and polystyrene foams compared to fiberglass, coupled with their competitive costs, ease of installation and ability to be added to existing structures through foamed-in-place techniques. below average growth in the household product market will be driven by rising consumer spending patterns and increased purchases of foamed flexible urethane in mattress, furniture and bedding products.

Press Release

US DEMAND FOR FOAMED PLASTICS TO REACH 8.4 BILLION POUNDS IN 2013

August 11th, 2009

Demand for foamed plastics is forecast to grow 2.7 percent annually through 2013 to 8.4 billion pounds, valued at $27.1 billion. Advances will be stimulated by a turnaround in building construction and motor vehicle production. Foamed urethane will continue as the largest type and expand to 4.3 billion pounds in 2013, driven by insulation and cushioning applications. Construction and packaging together accounted for nearly 60 percent of all foamed plastics demand in 2008. These and other trends are presented in Foamed Plastics, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industry research firm.

Demand for foamed urethane is projected to increase at a 2.8 percent annual pace through 2013. Slightly better growth is expected for foamed flexible urethane than its rigid counterpart. Good growth is expected for foamed flexible urethane in motor vehicle and carpet underlay applications in light of rebounding motor vehicle and residential building construction markets. Foamed rigid urethane demand will exhibit rapid advances in building and tank/pipe insulation based on heightened construction activity. Good growth is anticipated for foamed rigid urethane in structural insulated panels.

Demand for foamed polystyrene will rise at a 2.3 percent annual pace to 2.5 billion pounds in 2013 due to myriad packaging and construction insulation applications. Packaging will continue to account for 70 percent of all foamed polystyrenes markets in 2013 based on cost and performance advantages over other resins and materials.

Foamed vinyl demand is expected to increase nearly three percent annually to 265 million pounds in 2013, buoyed by renewed vigor in the residential building segment, as well as replacement applications for vinyl windows, doors, flooring and other products. Foamed engineering plastics demand is projected to rise 3.4 percent annually to 315 million pounds in 2013 as a result of needs for more cost effective and higher performing materials, particularly in motor vehicle and electrical and electronic applications. Foamed polypropylene opportunities will reflect the resins low cost, high mechanical strength and other performance properties. The most rapid growth, however, is expected for much smaller volume biodegradable foam in light of increased availability and environmental awareness.
