Introduction

Abstract

“IDC Retail Insights believes that 2009 will be a pivotal year in the Western European retail industry, and the level of attention paid now to IT will mark a changed market landscape when the recession ends,” said Ivano Ortis, EMEA Research Director, IDC Retail Insights. “Retailers are recalibrating their IT budgets towards value, efficiency and effectiveness, for example, by reorienting maintenance spending to continue investing in IT-enabled business innovation. Our new survey results also indicate that European merchants are reshaping their IT selection criteria as a result of the new economic reality.”
