The health information exchange picture in Central and Eastern Europe remains mixed, with various healthcare providers at all stages of health information exchange maturity. Although EU-level ehealth strategy and associated funding is shaping the health information exchange picture in the region, a lack of leadership remains at the national level.
"Vendors need to start thinking like PR agents for health ICT to push CEE countries to a point of electronic health information exchange. problems with health ICT projects have been highly publicized elsewhere in Europe, and, yes, CEE healthcare budgets are under pressure, but the advantages this region holds when it comes to health information exchange-including relatively small populations, close to universal healthcare access, few payer organizations, long histories of extensive data collection, and little legacy equipment to incorporate in the primary care sector-make the future of electronic health information exchange extraordinarily promising in this region."- Senior Analyst Heather Keyes, IDC Health Insights, IDC CEMA
