Introduction

Abstract

IAL is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of a new edition of its report on the Markets for Polyurethane Chemicals and Products in Asia-Pacific. This will again be a three volume report covering the major areas in the Asia-Pacific region.

Each volume describes three distinct markets within the overall region in detail, whilst the headline data relating to total production and raw material consumption will be collated and summarised in a single volume Executive Summary and presentation.

The geographical coverage is as follows:

  • Far East - China, South Korea, Japan & Taiwan
  • India
  • South East Asia & Australia - Indonesia, Malaysia,Philippines, Singapore, Thailand & Rest of SEA

The three volumes reflect markets at different stages of development, each offering different opportunities for raw material and equipment suppliers. The markets in the Far East are technically developed and fairly mature, with the exception of China, where significant growth is still being driven by export and domestic demand.

PU production in the smaller markets of South East Asia is growing because of competitive labour costs compared to China and increased levels of foreign investment. These emerging markets continue to develop and offer good growth opportunities and in some cases the advantages of easier trading conditions when compared to China

India has the world' s second largest population after China, and has the world' s second highest growth rate for PU production, with aims of becoming a major global automotive and footwear manufacturer. However, problems of poor infrastructure and high taxes still hamper market growth.
