Introduction

Abstract

This IDC study discusses the end-user survey conducted within the United States during the September–October time frame. It provides an analysis of print volume trends within the datacenter, in-plant, and service bureau print environments. These segments of the printing industry certainly have not escaped the impact of the economic recession. However, the study provides some surprising findings.

"Datacenters, in-plants, and service bureaus reported surprising increases in print volumes. However, when looking more closely, the transactional print volume increases are in large part due to print aggregation and don' t reflect overall print volume increases. Due to offset transfer, the story is clearly different for a range of marcomm and customer correspondence. Nevertheless, print environments will need to substantially evolve as they come out of the recessionary environment." — Riley McNulty, research manager, Production and Large Format Print Markets
