Introduction

Abstract

This IDC study is an up-to-date overview and analysis of the Canadian mobile phone market and accompanying vendor shares for the first three quarters of 2009 and the fourth quarter of 2008. The shares of major vendors operating in Canada are reviewed and analyzed on an overall basis as well as by converged mobile and traditional mobile categories. The document is designed to help vendors and end-user organizations better assess the mobile phone supplier landscape in Canada as well as understand the positioning of some products that are offered.

"The short-term macroeconomic environment has made the Canadian market a difficult selling environment," said Kevin Restivo, senior mobility analyst, IDC Canada. "Assuming long-term economic growth will again ensue, vendors must have a long-term strategy that will help capture a greater portion of the converged mobile device market given its heady growth and the ongoing shift toward devices that surf the Web and exchange emails, among other functions."
