Abstract

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report, IDC #J9450110) analyzes the performance of the Japan disk storage systems market from 1H07 to 1H09 and provides forecasts up to 2013. The market' s performance was analyzed based on revenue, unit shipment, and capacity shipment while the forecasts were made based on revenue and capacity shipment. The suppliers' performance and market shares were also analyzed based on revenue, capacity shipment, and unit shipment from 1H08 to 1H09. In addition, we also analyzed and made forecasts for the Japan disk storage systems market by OS, connection environment, product class, segment, and distribution channel. This study also provides shipment and forecast data pertaining to the external disk storage systems market, which was split into three product classes based on price band — high end, midrange, and low end.

"The Japan overall disk storage spending sharply decreased in 2009, as companies tightened their belts with regard to IT spending. However, new business opportunities were also created.
