Introduction

Abstract

This study is the result of IDC' s 2009 Consumer PC Monitor Buyer Survey. Conducted online during the last week of November 2009, the survey polled carefully screened consumer participants about their current PC and monitor use, as well as future plans. Using a Web-hosting firm, we conducted the survey in seven countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, China, Germany, India, and Japan, gathering a total of more than 3,800 respondents. This document focuses on PC monitors specifically, and a subset of 1,275 respondents who said they planned to purchase a new monitor in the next 12 months. This study covers the worldwide results of the survey (part 1 was U.S. only).

"Consumers in different countries often have different wants and needs," says Tom Mainelli, senior research analyst with IDC' s Clients and Displays Group. "Successful vendors know a one-size-fits-all worldwide approach is no longer valid in today' s evolving market."
