The top 10 IT services vendors in Western Europe in 2012 were the same vendors as in 2011, headed by IBM, HP, Capgemini, and Accenture. Total IT services demand for these top 10 vendors in Western Europe turned slightly negative (a decline of just under 1%) for the first time since 2009, ending the recovery experienced in 2010-2011.
"2013 will likely be another tough year for the top 10, with little demand growth outside a few hot areas such as security and IDC's 'four pillars' of cloud, mobility, social media, and analytics/Big Data, supplemented with specialized areas such as machine-to-machine communications," said Douglas Hayward, associate vice president, IDC European Services Research. "We recommend that IT services vendors remain tightly focused on cost control both for themselves and their clients, and combine this with attention to their clients' growth agenda needs. We also urge enterprises and public bodies buying IT services to look for business value more than price when assessing vendors' offerings, evaluate potential vendors on their strengths around the four pillars, and take a holistic view of vendors by assessing the likely future strengths of suppliers and their offerings and not just consider their present strengths."
