This IDC study investigates mobile opportunities in Western European vertical markets through the analysis of vertical markets' demographic structure and customer orientation and mobile solutions' readiness by vertical market.
For this second point, the study leverages results from the IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey. This survey was finalized in September 2011 and covers the top 5 Western European countries (France, Germany, Italy, the U.K., and Spain). 2,044 Western European companies with 20+ employees were interviewed with the purpose of understanding 2012 vertical markets' IT spending directions, solution priorities, investment plans, adoption of new technologies and mobility, role of IT within the organization, and customer satisfaction.
This particular study analyses vertical markets' results on:
Adoption of mobile users' devices (including BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad and other tablets, and other smartphones)
Employee penetration of mobile devices
Adoption and plans of adoption by year-end 2013 for different mobile solution areas (with details for mobile application platform, mobile device management, mobile native applications for external usage, mobile native applications for internal usage, extension of on-premises corporate applications to mobile devices)
Mobile software investments and structure of license fees for mobile native applications for internal usage and extension of on-premises corporate applications to the mobile environment
The study also provides vertical markets forecast for total smartphones and tablets in total Western Europe, consistent with data published in IDC's Black Book 4Q11.
"By the end of 2013, more than 60% of companies in Western Europe will have adopted at least one mobile software solution. Telecom/media, finance, utilities/oil and gas, and government will stand out for adoption rates, but strong opportunities are evident across all vertical markets," said Giuliana Folco, research vice president, IDC European Industry Solutions.
