This year's Western European End-User Storage Survey explores the purchasing intentions and priorities of 505 IT professionals, as well as the challenges they face. We explore how their budgets are changing in 2012 compared with last year and which technologies they have deployed or intend to deploy this year and next. We also look at workloads in order to examine which technologies are most suitable for each.
"This year's storage survey reaffirmed many of the findings from last year: while customers need more capacity and performance, many of them are looking for solutions that can reduce storage-related costs, free up valuable labor time, and offer advanced built-in data protection features. Archiving, once again, came out on top as the single biggest driver for storage spending out of any storage workloads. Archiving was also the most challenging job, but server and desktop virtualization projects are also stretching the resources and expertise of many storage administrators, the survey shows," said Daniel Bizo, research analyst, EMEA Storage, IDC.
