Introduction

Abstract

This IDC study quantifies the U.S. printer market in detail, analyzing issues, trends, and product advances. It contains IDC' s review and forecast of the U.S. printer market for 2003–2013. Unit shipment, value of shipment, and average shipment value (ASV) information are also presented. Data for 2003–2008 is actual, whereas data for 2009–2013 is projected.

"The overall U.S. printer market will continue to feel pressure from increasingly attractive multifunction devices. Consequently, an aggressive decline in inkjet printer shipments is expected throughout the forecast as end users move toward comparable MFPs, higher-productivity segments, and electronic document output. Despite overall declines, color laser and high-end color systems will continue to be key areas of growth in the future." — Akia Ramsay, research analyst, Printers and Peripherals
