Introduction

Abstract

This IDC study provides a top-down sizing of the Western European HCM and payroll applications market in 2005–2008 and a 2009–2013 forecast. This study segments the HCM and payroll applications market by functional segment (six functional segments), company size band (1–499 employees, 500–4,999 employees, and 5,000 employees or more), by deployment model (SaaS and on premises), and by Western European country.

"The HCM and payroll applications market in Western Europe reached €1.8 billion during 2008. What used to be a red-hot HCM market in Europe will be affected by the current economic downturn. Buying cycles will lengthen, ROI requirements will heighten, and some strategic initiatives will get postponed. Meanwhile, the talent shortage that Europe has suffered from has been temporarily alleviated, which is affecting demand for talent management software," said Bo Lykkegaard, research director, IDC' s European Software and Services expertise center, IDC Europe. "However, IDC sees a healthy demand for HCM applications with payroll applications expected to see limited growth. In such environment, HCM and payroll applications vendors must adapt to the new market reality and explore alternative commercial models, deployment models, packaging, and industry content to win new customers," Lykkegaard continued.
