Introduction

Abstract

This IDC study quantifies the U.S. copier market opportunity in detail and analyzes its issues, trends, and product advances. It includes both monochrome (analog and digital) and color copier forecasts. The forecasts contain data for the U.S. copier market from 2003 to 2013. Unit shipment, value of shipment, and average shipment value (ASV) information is presented. Data for 2003–2008 is actual, whereas data for 2009–2013 is projected.

"The U.S. copier market is undergoing a series of challenges based on an economy that is forcing many potential customers to contract. Much of the current opportunity is tied to cost-cutting measures, such as managed print services, A4 machines, and recycling prowess. While many of these tactics appear to be consolatory in nature, it may be the best way to protect and maintain business until a recovery begins. Even with an expected recovery period, copier vendors and their channels need to explore revenue potential in copier-related software and services to ensure viability in the future market," says Keith Kmetz, program vice president of IDC' s Hardcopy Solutions research programs.
