Introduction

Abstract

On June 22 Mediatek announced that the company will acquire its rival Mstar and the acquisition process is slated for completion at the beginning of 2013. Mediatek and Mstar, respectively the largest and the second-largest IC design houses in Taiwan, have significant footholds in the IC design house industry and therefore the implications of such merger for the industry should merit further observation. This report profiles Mediatek's acquisition of Mstar and provides insight into the impacts of such incident on the IC design house industries locally and worldwide.
