Introduction

Abstract

Report Summary

Despite the global financial crisis, new capacity of both PV systems and wind turbines in China grew impressively in 2009 and is forecast to continue to grow. Over 220 MW of PV modules were installed in China in 2009, a four-fold increase from 2008 due to two government incentives, while new capacity of both small off-grid and large on-grid wind turbines has grown by 130.6% in the past two years.

This report covers the 7 major non-fossil energy types including PV, wind, biomass, nuclear energy, hydroelectricity, geothermal and tidal. It draws on in-depth interviews with manufacturers of PV cells & modules, inverters, wind turbines and PV system integrators to provide a detailed analysis of the Chinese renewable energy market and the opportunities for growth within it.

Some of the key findings are:

  • PV, wind and biomass are forecast to grow at the highest CAGRs among all the non-fossil energy types in next ten years.
  • National industry standards and an unclear feed-in-tariff remain to be the major issues hindering the development of the PV market.
  • Despite the global financial crisis, Chinese production of PV cells in 2009 was estimated to have increased by 20%; over 49% of the world' s PV cells were produced in China. 2010 production is forecast to grow further.

Feature of this report include:

  • Researched and produced from IMS Research' s Shanghai office, this study provides an unrivalled assessment of the Chinese renewable energy market.
  • Installation, shipment and production data for PV cells, modules, inverters and wind turbines.
  • Analysis of the government planning, policy, legislation and incentives affecting the Chinese renewable energy market.
  • Production shares and market shares for PV cells, PV modules, PV inverters, off-grid and on-grid wind turbines.
  • Detailed company profiles for the leading indigenous suppliers of PV components and wind turbines.
  • A comprehensive directory of major manufacturers in China for PV cells, modules, inverters and wind turbines.
