Abstract
This Intelligence Set includes the latest edition of vehicle seating report,
plus manufacturer profiles for Faurecia, Intier, Johnson Controls and Lear.
Each profile is approximately 25 to 27 pages, and includes a brief outline of
business activity, financial statistics, customers and more. They will allow
you to discover where the market is heading, what the latest innovations are,
and how your competitors are performing.
Since just-auto' s last edition of vehicle seating was published in June 2008,
the outlook for the automotive industry has significantly changed. As recently
as the beginning of 2008, we were looking at a ' managed slowdown' for the
global economy and the automotive industry was very much part of that. By the
end of 2008, however, major companies were struggling to keep their heads
above water in the face of collapsed automotive markets.
Given the current state of the industry, just-auto has completely revised its
estimates and forecasts of the vehicle seating market volumes and values. This
report now carries an addendum setting out our revised forecasts for vehicle
seating based on latest forecasting analysis for passenger car vehicle
assembly in North America, Western Europe and Japan from 2005 through to 2016.
In addition, and given the sheer volatility of the global economy at present,
we have set out ' expected' , ' best-case' and ' worst-case' scenario data applied
to vehicle seating. On balance, we believe this will provide readers with a
more realistic framework for our component forecasts.
just-auto estimates that the European, North American, Japanese and Chinese
front seating market volume totalled almost 106m units in 2007, and has the
potential to reach 133m by 2014. Although modern car seats are more
comfortable and safer than ever before, flexibility, comfort and safety
continue to be the main drivers of this business. OEMs are demanding greater
differentiation in their seat designs, customers want more luxury such as
cooling and heating, and ergonomists understand much more about what the human
frame needs in order to be comfortable.
A great deal of work is also focused on different seat fabrics, creating more
breathable or waterproof surfaces, and built-in fragrances are also being
designed in a bid to increase feelings of well-being.
It' s clear that interiors must appeal to all kinds of people. Not only is
there the problem of defining comfort levels, but also cosmetic questions of
colour and trim, the covering materials used, durability, use of child seats,
headrests and overall seating arrangement.
This 2008 edition of the report provides an overview of the vehicle seating
industry, and takes a look at the trends affecting the sector. It offers top
level market fitment, volume and value forecasts through 2014, and includes
exclusive interviews with executives at Intier Automotive Seating and Johnson
Controls. The technical review discusses the latest innovations in seating,
such as increased flexibility, and the use of renewable materials, plus we
provide a concise profile for each of the major manufacturers.
