Introduction

Abstract

In the earlier Maximising Wireless Profit (MWP) report Assessing the Impact of SIM-only Service Propositions (October 2009), Mobile Market Development reviewed the SIM-only offers of 41 MNOs and MVNOs in eight European plus the Australian markets.

This current report provides an update to those operators' SIM-only tariff plans and highlights the changes in SIM-only postpay design that have taken place since 2009. These design changes concern how operators have dealt with issues such as SIM-only pricing, contract duration and the methods used to incentivise and position SIM-only versus standard postpay plans.

With the proliferation of smartphones, most operators now incorporate data into their SIM-only tariff plans; however some operators perform much better than most in promoting SIM-only both as a proposition for existing smartphone users as well as standard feature phone users.
