The Asia Pacific market for dental implants includes sales of dental implant
fixtures and final abutments in Australia, Japan, and South Korea. In 2011,
despite the Australian market's strong growth and growing unit sales in South
Korea, the overall market declined slightly amid a downturn in the large
Japanese market; this can be attributed to strong price competition from South
Korean manufacturers as well as residual economic pressures from the EU debt
crisis and the 2011 Japanese earthquake/tsunami, combined with only slight
procedural increases. Although some patients elected to delay procedures
during the economic downturn, dental workflows will increase over the forecast
period as economic recovery becomes more apparent, allowing the Asia Pacific
dental implant market to return to moderate growth levels. Through 2016,
growing patient awareness of dental implant treatments and increased clinical
adoption of dental implant therapy will drive procedure volume growth.
Overall, the market will reach a value of approximately $815 million by 2016.
