Big Data Analytics on Hadoop

Abstract

Introduction

With Hadoop implementation crossing over to the enterprise mainstream, Ovum is receiving a growing volume of inquiries from our client base. The questions surround the familiar three pillars - people, process, and technology. But in recent months, the trend in queries has been more on technology - specifically, what kind of market is shaping up. This report summarizes the response we made on one such query.

Highlights

Despite the hype, the potential advantages of Big Data analytics are real. The hype has stirred interest in Big Data, and specifically for the Hadoop platform; that in turn is spurring emergence of a third-party ecosystem of analytic tools, management tools, and platforms. Enterprise storage vendors view Big Data and Hadoop as a new opportunity - as they expect that petabytes of data will generate demand for petabytes of enterprise storage. However, the suitability of enterprise storage systems for Hadoop has not yet been proven and most products on the market today are first generation.

Features Benefits

Provides an overview of the immature market for BI tools and Hadoop and the vendors hoping to stake a claim. Discusses how organizations seeking to implement a Hadoop-based analytics solution must be proactive about acquiring Hadoop platform skills.
