Introduction

Abstract

Broadband content revenues from music, games, VoD and IPTV will reach $33.9 billion globally in 2010. Mature broadband content services such as music and games have driven revenues over the last few years but they will start to contribute proportionately less to the overall broadband content revenue pie, flattening out towards the end of the forecast period. Both music and games will come under pricing pressure, but at the same time we expect revenue growth from new broadband content services and revenue streams from mobile content in some markets such as Asia-Pacific.

Revenues from IPTV and VoD applications will drive overall broadband content revenues from 2008 onwards. For this report we have taken our latest broadband content forecasts and analysed them across service groups and regions to draw out the revenue highlights.

The forecasts cover 12 individual countries as well as the following seven geographic regions:

  • North America
  • Latin America
  • Western Europe
  • Eastern Europe
  • China-India
  • Asia-Pacific
  • Middle East and Africa (MEA).

Our forecast covers four key broadband content categories, each of which consists of two business models; download and subscription.

The four content categories are:

  • music
  • games
  • video-on-demand (VoD)
  • IPTV
