Peru: Economic Growth Will Help Close the Telecom Services Market Gap
|
This publication has been discontinued on December 22, 2011.
Abstract
Generating $3.4bn in service revenue in 2009, the Peruvian telecom market is
expected to expand at a CAGR of 8.8% over the next five years. The fastest
growth segments will be mobile data (27.1% CAGR), VoIP (25% CAGR) and fixed
broadband (15.8% CAGR). Mobile data revenue, in particular, will more than
triple over the next five years, as increased penetration of mobile services
allows operators to penetrate new customer segments with existing data offers
and as 3G networks enable the provision of higher-speed services.
The pay-TV market is also expected to expand fast during the period (7.8%
CAGR), piggybacking on the broadband Internet market, as bundled services
become more popular and competition increases. Going forward, we expect fixed
circuit-switched revenue to decrease due to fixed-mobile substitution and
competition from VoIP alternatives via cable and WiMAX. Similarly, dial-up
Internet will slide continuously in favor of faster connections via the
expansion of DSL, WiMAX and other broadband technologies.
