Abstract
The telecommunications services market in Chile contracted 7.9% in 2009 due to
the challenging economic crisis and, perhaps more importantly, due to a 45%
reduction in mobile interconnection rates that went into effect in January
2009. Going forward, we expect the market to expand at a 4.4% CAGR fueled by
an increase in revenue coming from fixed and mobile data services. We expect
mobile data service revenue to account for 23% of total service revenue in
2015, compared with 10% in 2009. Pay-TV, which remains largely underpenetrated
in Chile at less than 40% of households, will also see an important rate of
growth during the forecast period (8.5% CAGR) driven by the entry of
traditional telecommunications service providers into the pay-TV space.
