Connected Consumer Survey 2020: Digital Services in the Middle East
Published: April 26, 2021 Content info: 8 Slides

"The proportion of respondents in the Middle East that reported using a mobile money wallet grew between 2019 and 2020, which reflects the accelerated roll-out of, and increased demand for, contactless payments due to the pandemic."

This report focuses on aspects of Analysys Mason's Connected Consumer Survey that relate to the behaviour, preferences and plans of smartphone users in the Middle East. In particular, it focuses on respondents' usage of digital services such as e-commerce and payments.

This report:

  • discusses the main e-commerce trends in the Middle East, including the type of devices that consumers use to purchase goods online and the barriers to further m-commerce penetration
  • discusses the payment mechanisms favoured by consumers for e-commerce and physical commerce and provides information on how often consumers use m-wallets for physical commerce
  • identifies the most popular m-wallet solutions in the region
  • provides insight into the organisations that consumers in this region are most willing to trust.

The research was conducted between August and September 2020. The survey groups were chosen to be representative of the mobile-internet-using population in the Middle East. We set quotas on age, gender and geographical spread to that effect. There were 3750 respondents in the region.
