This report provides an in-depth analysis of the Chilean bathroom market including the monitoring of recent trend patterns and demand drivers, plus substantiated volume forecasts for the next 5 years. The demand for bathroom products in Chile started to slow down in 2019. Sales of bathroom products were reported to have experienced a strong increase in the first half of 2019 as a result of growing demand from the new housing sector. Sales in the retail market were also strong but halted in the last two months due to social and political unrest that kept retail stores closed for almost the last three months of the year.
Sales of baths, shower trays and bath doors ended the year with negative growth. While sales of ceramic sanitaryware, shower doors and faucets increased but at lower rate than in 2018. The Chilean economy started 2020 in a vulnerable position as it experienced a GDP contraction in the last quarter of 2019. The bathroom products market started to show signs of recovery during the first months of the year as construction projects and retail activity resumed. Unfortunately, the Chilean government implemented lockdowns across the country in mid-March in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Despite the negative forecast there are signals that the economic impact of the pandemic could be less severe than anticipated thanks to fast economic and fiscal measurement from the Chilean government and the approval of a constitutional plebiscite. The market of bathroom products should start to see signs of recovery in 2021 and there should be a small increase in sales. All of this is assuming the virus is contained, private consumption resumes, and the social unrest continue to be under control.
