The office furniture sector in China and Asia Pacific has evolved positively in the last decade. The region represents one of the fastest growing areas at a world level and can be considered one of the main engine of the whole business and its international trade.
Exports value exceeded USD 5 billion in 2018. As a consequence, the export/production ratio reached 23% in 2018 (18% in 2009). China is by far the largest exporter accounting for 88% of total exports. North America is the largest destination of office furniture exports.
In 2018, the office furniture consumption in China and Asia Pacific amounted to USD 18 billion, increasing by 5% if compared to the previous year. China represents the largest marketplace, followed by Japan and Australia.
Sector concentration increased since 2014, with largest manufacturers expanding their market share. Looking at the total sales of office furniture, CSIL estimates that 32% of market share is in the hand of the top 20 players (29% in 2014). However, the situation differs significantly according to each single market.
