Description

Market Overview

The geotextile tubes are the large sludge dewatering bags or geo-containers made up of the high strength, permeable geotextiles. The geotextile tubes are widely used for coastal and marine projects. These are installed by filling these tubes with sand or suitable dredged material. These tubes provide the quick dewatering of the material. The geotextile tubes can be laid in the reservoir for controlling the current and reducing the future siltation or restore eroded banks. The global geotextile tubes market valued USD XX million in 2018 and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% to reach USD XX million by 2026.

Market Dynamics:

The market is driven by the rising demand for geotextile tubes in the marine & hydraulic, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, and construction industries. These tubes are ideal erosion cost-effective mitigation solution for dewatering and desludging applications. The geotextile tubes help in preventing the leakage of contaminants to the environment during the processing, transit, and final disposal of contaminants.

There is a growing installation of the geotextile tubes are used for preventing the coastal erosion that occurred due to the rise in the level of the oceans and seas because of the increasing temperature in the marine coast. Coastal erosion also occurred due to human activities such as sand dredging and harbor construction. For instance, the government has installed the geotextile tubes along the coastlines of the Bay of Bengal, along with the coastal areas of Malad, Mumbai, along the sea wall of Uppada, Andhra Pradesh and in other coastal areas all over India.

The rise in the launch of the products related to the geotextile tubes shall stimulate the market. For instance, in October 2015, Huesker had launched the SoilTain Protect geotextile system for the international mining community. SoilTain Protect is an innovative geotextile containment system manufactured utilizing state-of-the-art weaving technology, which provides a tubular system interconnected into a singular geosynthetic mattress configuration. The geosynthetic ballast mattress is constructed of interwoven geotextile tubes to form homogenous panels. SoilTain helps in eliminating the heavy construction equipment on top of primary geomembranes and enhances site safety significantly through the reduction of construction traffic, increases storage space due to the utilization of waste.

Several institutes, organizations, and associations are collaborating with the companies for the installation of the geotextile tubes. For instance, in September 2017, the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) had signed a $13.8M contract with Samaroo Investment for the installation of geotextiles tubes. The contract includes the installation of the 100m geotextiles tubes to form groynes along the foreshore at Reliance, Essequibo. The geotextile tubes would be aligned with the circumference of 30 feet and geotextile layers perpendicular to the current sea defences and sand fill tubes using slurry. The groynes shall be placed 10m from the sea defences.

Segment Analysis

The global geotextile tubes market is segmented based on product type as woven, and nonwoven. The woven geotextile tubes segment accounts for the highest market share owing to the high usage of the woven geotextile tubes for dewatering applications because of their high-performance efficiency, efficient filtration, fine porosity and has a superior tensile strength in comparison to the nonwoven geotextile tubes. The woven geotextile tubes are prepared by the sewing one or more layers of high strength permeable woven geotextile fabric for forming the tube and is filled with high water content materials by hydraulic pumping. There are several woven geotextile tubes available in the market. For instance, Tensar's triton geotextile tubes are manufactured from a high-tenacity polyester yarn using a weft insertion knitting (WIK) process, which prevents the yarns from becoming crimped. It is stronger and more durable in comparison to the tubes made from conventional woven fabrics. The triton geotextile tubes can be pumped longer than conventional geotextile tube products. The triton geotextile tubes comprised of fine-grained, highly organic materials, effluents with less than 50 ppm total suspended solids (TSS). Its flow rate remains constant even under peak tensile loading. It comprised of the high flow rates result in faster dewatering and reduced labor requirements on-site.

Further, the market is also classified based on the end-users as marine & hydraulic, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, construction, and others. The marine & hydraulic segment accounts for the highest market share due to the rising technological advancement along with the fabrication techniques for the development of the geotextile tubes for the marine & hydraulic industry. Companies are developing the geotextile tubes with the well-structured design formulas and different specifications depending on the scientific properties of numerous marine coasts as the sandy beach coasts require the geotextile tubes with higher wave energy and higher bed shear strength along with the specific height designs to withstand the wave forces. On the other hand, the geotextile tubes for the muddy coasts have low wave energy and bed shear strength in comparison to the geotextile tubes for the sandy beach coasts.

Geographical Presentation

By region, the global geotextile tubes market is segmented into North America, South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle-East, and Africa. Among all of the regions, Asia-Pacific dominated the global geotextile tubes market and expected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecasted period due to the increasing government initiatives for installing the geotextile tubes on the oceans and seas for the prevention of the coastal erosion. For instance, in July 2019, the government had allowed the installation of the geotextile tubes along the coast of Ponani, Kerala for the prevention of the sea attacks. There is the presence of the large number of companies involved in the development of the technologically advanced geotextile tubes. The drastic market growth is expected to be observed in the developing countries including India and China as the majority of the market players are focusing on establishing their manufacturing base and facilities in these countries. It is further expected that the Asia-Pacific region shall maintain its dominant market position over the forecasted period.

North America is expected to have a positive market share due to the rising usage of the geotextile tubes in dewatering and remediation of dredged sediments for lakes, rivers, and canals. There is rising adoption of the advanced geotextile tubes. The rising government investment for the infrastructure activities, research & development sectors shall boost the demand for the geotextile tubes over the forecasted period.

Competitive Analysis

The global geotextile tubes market is highly competitive with the presence of several international and local markets. Product diversification, revenue generation, and opportunities intensify the market competition. Ace Geosynthetics, Officine Maccaferri, Flexituff Ventures International Limited, Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd, Koninklijke TenCate, Huesker, Fibertex Nonwovensare the leading market players with significant market share.

The major players are using product development, novel product launch, collaborations, acquisitions, mergers, market expansion, capacity utilization, and product diversification strategies for holding their position in the market. For instance, in October 2018, TenCate Geosynthetics Americas had expanded its nonwoven production. The company had started its new production line of non-woven geotextiles at its Jefferson, Georgia facility. This facility has advanced fiber distribution capabilities to create a uniquely consistent product in appearance and finished roll dimension. This facility also comprised of the largest card/cross lapper in the staple fiber geosynthetics industry for producing both polypropylene and polyester geotextiles.

In September 2017, HUESKER had started the production at its Klin facility. This facility is spread across 5,000 m² and is engaged in the production of tried-and-tested geotextiles such as HaTelit, Basetrac, and Stabilenka. This facility also manufactures several products locally to cater to the hydraulics and environmental engineering segment. This production expansion strategy would help the company to strengthen its position in Europe.

In June 2016, Maccaferri opened a new state-of-the-art facility in Senica, Slovakia. It has a total area of 28,000 square meters. This facility would help the company for expanding its presence in Central and Western Europe

In January 2012, TenCate Geosynthetics Americas was selected by Parsons Engineering of New York for supplying the TenCate Geotube containers for the dredging project on Onondaga Lake, in the State of New York. This project is the largest geotextile tube project in the US and North America.
