Global Disposable Masks & Respirators: COVID-19 Impact Analysis
Published: May 20, 2020 Content info: 80 Pages

Shortages of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) have been front page news almost since the COVID-19 virus began spreading across the world. And disposable masks, especially the N95 masks essential to healthcare workers, are the poster child for PPE shortages.

With inadequate production capacity and failing supply chains, governments and manufacturers around the world have mobilized to increase mask production capacity. Big name companies like GM, Boeing and Foxconn are converting their plants for mask production.

Included within the scope of this study are:

  • medical examination or procedure masks
  • surgical masks
  • personal masks (also known as courtesy masks)
  • respirator masks certified to filter at least 94% of airborne particles, commonly known as N95, KN95, and FFP2 masks, among others (as well as oil-resistant versions of these)

In this report the term “surgical masks” is used as a catch-all for all disposable masks other than respirators.

This study provides essential data and analysis to help mask producers, distributors, raw material suppliers, and end users understand the factors that led up to the current masks shortages and where the market is going in 2020 and long term.
