GlobalData forecasts Argentina's construction output growth to stand at 2.5% in 2022 in real terms, with output only expected to return to 2019 levels in 2022. In the first quarter of 2022, construction output rose by 3% year on year (YoY), preceded by Y-o-Y growth of 5.2% in Q4 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). Growth in the industry will be buoyed by the execution of major infrastructure projects, combined with the resumption of ongoing building projects stalled by coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions. In addition, growth this year will also be supported by a 79.5% increase in the total area approved for building permits in 2021, rising from 5.6 million m2 in 2020 to 10.1 million m2 in 2021.

Argentina's construction industry is projected to expand by an annual average rate of 2.3% between 2023 and 2026, supported by energy, transport, and residential investment. In January 2022, the Ministry of Public Works announced an investment of ARS10.6 trillion ($84.8 billion) for executing 3,131 new infrastructure works and projects across the country, as part of the Plan Argentina Hace. In another positive development, in February 2022, the Ministry of Transport signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Chinese companies for three rail projects, as part of the Argentina Rail Modernization Plan for 2030. Investment in renewable energy generation projects has gathered pace, as international investor interest has spiked due to the extensive renewable natural resources. In February 2022, the steel pipe manufacturer Tenaris announced an investment plan of ARS23.7 billion ($190 million) for the construction of a new Argentine wind farm, which is expected to come online by mid-2023. Under this project, 101MW of capacity will be added to the city of Adolfo Gonzales Chaves in Buenos Aires province, and 509GWh of electricity will be generated annually.
