This IDC Market Perspective provides an update on the status of next-generation wireless 5G networks and service rollouts, enterprise adoption, and use cases in Canada in 2022. Although Canada's largest wireless providers boast commercial launches of standalone (SA) 5G networks, 5G will remain nascent in Canada until a pending millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency spectrum auction is conducted in 2024."Wireless service provider revenue stream from true standalone 5G services is still three years away in Canada," says study author Lawrence Surtees, vice president of Communications Research and principal analyst at IDC Canada. "Enterprise monetization and strong vertical industry-specific use cases for 5G services are dependent upon emerging technologies tied to SA 5G including mobile edge computing and network slicing."
