The satellite broadband and broadcast industry is experiencing a renewed interest and demand as global low-earth orbits (LEO) enter the market and new national/regional satellites are being launched in the next two to three years in the region. The result of all the new capacity is that the cost per megabits per second will continue to decline because the cost of delivery for LEOs is so competitive with regard to that of GEOs. The range of use cases that will become more feasible as the wholesale bandwidth price continues to fall will expand to home broadband, aero mobility, cruise ships and luxury yachts, oil and gas floating production storage offloading (FPSOs), and emergency disaster and remote venues. In some of the markets in the region, satellite costs will be attractive enough to make satellite a backup for both enterprise and residences. In contrast to 5G, in which there is a definite impact on carbon dioxide emission, the fact that the transponders and array antennas are in space means that there is no impact on heating up the planet from space transmission.
