U.S. Federal Government IT Security Spending Forecast, 2017-2020
Published: April 7, 2017 Content info: 14 Pages
Description

This IDC study focuses on U.S. federal spending related to IT security. In short, IT security spending within the federal government remains robust and should remain healthy through 2020 (and likely beyond). But the market itself is changing, with a move toward unified threat management (UTM) and cloud-based monitoring and access control solutions. For 2017, addressable IT security spending (hardware, software, and IT services spending only) breaks out to roughly $1.8 billion for the Defense Department and $1.9 billion for civilian agencies. By 2020, that will grow to $2.5 billion for DoD and $2.2 billion for civilian agencies."IT security is more than just products and services," says Shawn P. McCarthy, research director for IDC Government Insights. "It is a posture and a set of activities at federal agencies that need to be assessed, managed, and constantly improved. Thus counting the dollars spent on security only tells part of the story. The rest of the story is the way agencies work to close their potential security issues."
