This report provides an analysis of the 2018 vendor share and vendor trends in the whole of the Japan network equipment market by product segment that includes Ethernet switches, routers, WLAN, and by user segment namely, enterprise and carrier segments. The 2018 Japan network equipment market for carriers continues to face a slump since 2015 as opposed to the solid growth achieved in the enterprise segment driven by the growth of WLAN market. By vendor, Cisco Systems accounted for almost half of overall network equipment market share and emerged as the leader in all market segments including the three product segments and two user segments. Further, in the enterprise network equipment market, Allied Telesis and Yamaha have secured a position next to Cisco Systems by capturing the wave of growth in the WLAN market, while maintaining a stable base of Ethernet switch and router markets, respectively. "When it comes to network selection for 5G services that provides huge business opportunities, it is important to find ways to speed up the deployment of 5G and save labor. With the lack of human resources for installation impeding the rapid deployment of 5G base stations, the importance of automating the installation and testing of network devices and saving labor, is growing," says Kenichi Kusano, group manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
