"Internet of things (IoT) in South Korea and Taiwan is at an inflection point at the end of 2018 as smart home, utilities, connected cars and telematics, Smart City/homeland security, wearables, embedded manufactured electronics goods, freight forwarding, manufacturing robots and machine tools are set to grow rapidly in 2019-2023," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific. "With South Korea planning to launch mobile and fixed wireless access 5G services later in 2019 and early 2020, we expect to see another wave of IoT adoption as enterprises began to test and verify the benefits of ultrareliable low latency reliable communications (URLLC) for a wide range of use cases including robotics and factory production machine control," he adds.
