This IDC Market Share study provides an overview of the European enterprise storage systems market performance for full-year 2019. "2019 was a year of consolidation for Enterprise storage in Europe, coming off the back of two years of strong gains, and the highs of 2018 with 22.3% growth. While capacity installed increased 2.6%, pricing efficiencies in both flash storage with QLC and HDD with helium-filled drives and SMR for large archive capacity meant that vendor revenues were down slightly by 3.0%," said Andrew Buss, research director, European Enterprise Infrastructure at IDC. "Hyperscaler public cloud provider demand in Western Europe remained strong as building capacity and country coverage continues to be a focus. This boosted ODM storage systems' growth, which came in at 13.4%. We anticipate high levels of global market uncertainty as suppliers and buyers adapt to changing conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. At this point, IDC forecasts a market contraction through 2020 with a recovery in 2021. Storage vendors need to be looking at how to position technology effectively through business-relevant use cases to flatten the COVID-19 curve and accelerate customer recovery as conditions return to a level of normality."
