This IDC study provides a brief overview of the worldwide enterprise storage systems (ESS) market performance during CY 2Q20."The enterprise storage systems market came in with a few surprises during 2Q20, all things considered," said Greg Macatee, research analyst, Infrastructure Platforms and Technologies. "Sales of ODM Direct systems to datacenter hyperscalers came in particularly strong, growing 64.1% year over year (y/y) during the quarter, thanks to continued and ongoing investments from cloud service providers. The external storage market finished down 5.0% y/y on the whole, although the all-flash array (AFA)-based system type subsegment grew revenue 7.7% y/y. Overall, the enterprise storage systems market finished with $29.8 billion in quarterly revenue, up 13.9% y/y."
