Acetic anhydride is obtained through the carbonylation of acetate. Acetic anhydride is a colorless solution which has a pungent odor. Acetic anhydride is majorly consumed in cellulose acetates. Cellulose acetate flakes are used in producing cigarette filters, plastics and filament yarns. The market for acetic anhydride is mainly driven by huge demand from cigarette tow market. Cellulose acetate is a key component in cigarettes. In addition to this, Acetic anhydride is also used in fragrances as well as for dyes.
