Oxygen is an essential element for all living beings. Over the last couple of decades, with the onset of the industrial revolution, the level of oxygen has been reducing in certain parts of the globe. As such, there have been numerous studies to deduce the quality of air in these regions where the drop in oxygen has been significant. Oxygen sensors are also used for automotive functions wherein depending on the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gases of an automobile, the efficiency of an engine can be determined. For example, if complete combustion has taken place, all of the oxygen would have been utilized or consumed in the engine thereby leaving no oxygen molecule to come out at all. Looking at the healthcare sector, oxygen sensors are used to determine the level of oxygen in a sample of air or a sample of blood to determine the various characteristics of the sample under focus.

Industrial applications of the sensors have also increased over the years with a number of manufacturing plants installing sensors to determine the air quality and also to determine if there is any deficient or non-effective manufacturing process taking place. There are sensors available in the market to identify specific compounds or elements; however, it would become extremely expensive and non-feasible for the company to purchase all of these sensors. The use of an oxygen sensor however becomes very pertinent as a drop in oxygen levels in an environment means that there is another gas which has contaminated the area and hence, further tests can be done later on to determine what gas has infected the area.

In terms of geographical contribution, the APAC region will have the highest contribution to the oxygen sensor market by virtue of the number of manufacturing and environmental studies taking place. Further to this, the healthcare industry has also been booming in the region and as such is a large adopter of oxygen sensors globally.
